So now that I’m finally finished watching Buffy Summers in all her glory, it’s time to move onto the next great T.V. show. I’ve just started watching Battlestar Galactica, beginning with the miniseries and working my way into the first few episodes of Season 1, and so far I gotta say, the rumors are true. This show is fantastic. I’m not a huge Sci-Fi guy (which is weird when you think about it because some of my favourite pieces of entertainment are Sci-Fi related, “Solaris”, “Neon Genesis Evangelion”, “Firefly”, and I’m sure there’s a couple more. My problem with Sci-Fi is that whenever I hear the word, I still always think “Star Wars” or “Star Trek”. And save for the excellent J.J. Abrams charged “Star Trek” reboot, neither one of those franchises has ever really done much for me. Okay, so “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home” was also awesome. It had whales. Sue me.) I suppose I should really start thinking more “Blade Runner” and less “Star Wars” when ever I hear the term, so I’ll try.
Awesome picture huh? (Which leads to another plus for “BG”, the incorporation of a god and religion into their mythology, without trying to sugar coat it. I’m still a sucker for theology for whatever reason. It’s like the video game series “Xenosaga” which, of course, was a branch off of the original “Xenogears”… still one of the best video games ever made, if not the best, and the “Saga” series, though revisionist, is still a wonderous story to behold… I’m getting really off topic now, but there’s one more thing I’d like to add before getting ON topic… I’ve been playing Final Fantasy XIII a lot lately and I’ve gotta ask the question, whose fantastic idea was it to merge “Final Fantasy” with “Xenosaga”? Cause that is literally what they did. Even some of the bad guys you fight look similar. Still, I’m not complaining, despite the story being waaaay too over dramatic at times, it’s still the best story they’ve had since “Final Fantasy VII”. You know how I mentioned “Xenogears” might be the best video game of all time? Well, I only say that because “Final Fantasy VII” definitely IS the best video game of all time… wow I think I’m almost done my digression here, but what the hell I’ll throw in some pictures about what I’ve been talking about.)
Oh boy. Okay, now I’m done. Almost. One last thing. That “BG” picture is so awesome I felt I needed to inclose the following picture as well for comparison.
It remains to be seen which show is better, “Lost” or “Battlestar Galactica”… Hey! “Lost”! That’s another Sci-Fi thing I like! I’m such a hypocrite…
