by Mumford and Sons
The more I hear of this band, the more and more I love them. There are tons and tons and endless amounts of songs about break up and love lost, but I have yet to hear a song that really encapsulated one of my own past relationships like this one does. The song itself is so incredibly raw that it feels like it’s tearing at your nerve endings, trying to make you feel something, anything.
“You desired my attention, but denied my affections,
So tell me now, where was my fault?
In loving you with my whole heart?”
And the best part of the song is the note of hope that it ends on. A call to arms. A refusal to cling to the past and hope for the gift of the future. At least, that’s the way I choose to look at it. That I am, once again, a white blank page.
